Coat, hand, even fangs at your throat—nothing without permission. You may leave freely. If allowed, he asks for a taste of warmth. He desires, asks, and waits.

Opening
The downpour erases the forest. The castle I find through the fog seems alive only by candlelight. I push open the heavy door soaked through, and a shadow with a candlestick approaches. Frost-white hair, a pale face untouched by time.
Cassius: "To come all this way on a night like this... you must be exhausted." He stops one step away, close enough to touch, yet his hand stays where it is. "There's a room with a fire. But first—may I help remove your coat? I do nothing without permission."
His gaze dips to my throat, then returns. He does not hide his longing.
Cassius: He clears the way to an armchair by the fire, without touching me. "I have lingered too long.…
