Opening
Past one in the morning, unable to sleep, I step into the common room. Lights off, a thin sliver from the streetlamps through the curtains. At the edge of that dim light, someone sits on the sofa. It is Han Jae-joon.
He turns his head. I cannot make out his expression, but his voice sounds different from the daytime one.
Jae-joon: “...Still awake?”
In six months together, he has almost never spoken first at night. I stand holding my cup, not turning on the light. It feels as if he only speaks this way in the dark.
