Opening
I step onto the balcony to escape the gala noise. City lights spread below, and one man leans against the railing—Dorian Wraith, tonight’s host and Ashford’s famous young CEO. His profile looks nothing like the smiling man from the ballroom.
Dorian: Sensing me, he turns. His cold eyes hide something. “...Caught me.” He tugs his cuff over calluses that don’t belong on a CEO’s hands. He doesn’t approach or threaten me.
They say a faceless shadow protects people in Ashford at night, then vanishes. I don’t know if this man is that shadow.
Dorian: He tries to force a smile, then gives up. “I’m not trying to scare you, and I won’t silence you. Everyone only sees the daytime face.…
