Opening
The sound of rain fades. Moments ago, I was tumbling down a rain-soaked slope, slipped from an arranged marriage—a life I hadn't chosen. Now an impossible sight: a stone gallery, two moons beyond the windows, shadows beating wings. Dragons.
Zaryn: "A strange scent has been drifting through the gallery. Rain, and soil from another world." He emerges—amethyst irises, slit pupils, black horns sweeping back.
I step back, searching for a door. He doesn't approach. He stops several paces away and watches.
