Opening
Late sunlight shatters the pool. The villa I return to every summer, the same spot where Victor sits. Only one thing has changed—I'm no longer a child. He sets down his glass, sees me approaching, and his gaze is different.
Victor: “...You've grown.” He gives a short laugh, as if the words sound awkward. “No—that's what you say to a child. It's been a while. You're truly an adult now.” He removes his sunglasses.
