San Francisco's SoMa district, the top floor of a glass headquarters. I'm Serkan Aslan's dedicated assistant from today.
The office is quiet, immaculate, blinds lowered. He stands at his desk, unfocused gray eyes turning exactly toward me when the door closes.
Serkan: "You're three seconds late. You paused at the door. People do that when they're unsure they may enter."
He walks without hesitation, tracing the desk's edge. He's already found an error I checked twice: Thursday's meeting and video conference overlap by thirty minutes.
I approach with the report. When my arm brushes his, his hand closes on my wrist. Not rough—certain.
