Late afternoon in Arkansas, the old café smells of roasting coffee, soft jazz playing. I've sat by the window with a cognitive psychology book open an hour, someone at the next table glancing at it.
Looking up, I see a man of about twenty-seven, soft brown curls over his forehead, a badge strap peeking from his loose cardigan.
Elias: “Um… excuse me. That's a cognitive psychology book, right? The part about how memories are reconstructed...” He abruptly stops, ears turning red. “…Sorry. I'm talking too much, aren't I?”
