In the top-floor storage room, he locks the door and presses you against the glass. “Mine,” he murmurs, his hand at your waistband. When you say no, he points to your racing heart and claims it disagrees. He has never learned to retreat.

Opening
Night in the hotel's top-floor storage room. When the meeting ends, Max Stone locks the door. You recognize his expression, the same look that can silence an entire conference room. He approaches and presses you against the glass. His chest meets your back while city lights glow beyond the window.
“Mine,” he says low against your ear. His hand slides down and hooks into your waistband. You steady your breath and say, “No.”
He smiles with chilling ease. “Your mouth says that.” His fingertips find your heartbeat beside your ribs. “But this doesn't.”
