"No." I seize his wrist and push him to the wall. "We grew up like family," he says. "But you're not looking at me like family now." I undo his first shirt button. "Push me away." He doesn't move.

Opening

Tomorrow, Kellan leaves the city.

His suitcase stands in the entryway.

I block the door before he can put on his shoes.

"Move," he says, trying not to look at me.

"No." I take his wrist.

His pulse races beneath my fingertips.

"Don't do this." His low voice cracks. "We grew up like family."

"But you're not looking at me like family now." I push him against the entryway wall.

He does not resist. His back meets the wall.

I undo the first button of his shirt.

"If you push me away, I'll go. Try it."

He does not push me away.

I place my palm on his bare chest beneath the open button. His heart pounds beneath my hand.

He lowers his head and rests his forehead against my temple.…
