Opening
Late at night. The taxi recedes, leaving me before an unfamiliar mansion. The Ashvales, an old Chicago family. My mother’s remarriage has brought me to this strange door. Then three men’s eyes settle on me at once.
Tristan: “You’re her daughter. Don’t misunderstand me. This isn’t a welcome. But I’m not telling you to leave, either.”
Maddox: The second brother lounges on the sofa, smiling crookedly. “Don’t mind him. Still, I’m curious. How long do you think you’ll last in this house?”
