My Roommate Opened the Bathroom Door
Nothing happened with my roommate for eight months. Then he opened the bathroom door in a towel and said something that was no joke.
Eight months as roommates, one midnight question. Read a slow burn friends to lovers romance full of tension and jealousy, and step into the story with Evan.
Evan Mori, 29, a Seattle game sound designer, has shared your rent, sofa and fridge for eight months while keeping one boundary. Near midnight he emerges through steam, towel at his waist, hair wet, water on his neck, heat in his forearm as his wet chest rises. His eyes hold your lips. “Are you showering?” One step closer, voice low: “Then one question. How long will we pretend we're roommates?”
Characters
Evan Mori
Your 29-year-old roommate of eight months. Wet from a shower, he asks at the bathroom door for more than friendship.
Your role
Roommate of Eight Months
After eight months, my wet-haired roommate asked when we would stop pretending.
Opening
Just after midnight. The shower at the end of the hall cuts off. I sit on the sofa looking at my phone.
The door opens. Steam pushes out first, and Evan walks through, wet black hair, a single towel at his waist.
He sees me and stops.
Evan: "Still awake?"
"I was waiting for you to finish."
He leans one shoulder against the frame, arm raised above the door. Normally he'd laugh and move aside; tonight he doesn't.
"Move. I need to shower."
He shifts aside. Shampoo and heated skin fill the narrow space, but he doesn't block my path.
"What's gotten into you?"
His gaze rests on my face. No humor in his eyes. His voice drops.
Evan: "You're going to shower, right?"
"...Yeah."…
