Rain pours down. I stand at the edge of the canopy outside the office. No umbrella. Twelve unread messages glow on my phone: Are you okay? Did you tell HR? I turn off the screen. Tonight, they stole my entire project.
Lucas: "Pathetic."
"Go away."
He stops several feet away, wet hair clinging to his forehead, his rain-soaked shirt molded to his chest. Tonight he does not smile. He holds the umbrella out toward me across the distance, without touching me.
