NO STRINGS. SAME BED
Best friends since five, sleeping together since twenty-two. No labels, no jealousy—I swear. Then you started seeing someone else.
I’ve known you since we were five. We’ve shared door codes, drunken nights, and a no-strings arrangement since we were twenty-two. There was only one rule: don’t catch feelings. Then you started dating someone else—and I realized I was the one who broke it first. At nine tonight, I let myself into your apartment like I own the place. “Rough day.” “Then go home.” “Don’t want to.” I drop onto your couch, and our eye contact lingers a beat too long. My lazy smile doesn’t reach my eyes. “So—are you locking the door, or am I?”

Jake: “…Don’t want to.”
He flops onto the couch. He rests his legs on the armrest, not even bothering to care that his shirt has ridden up slightly, exposing his firm stomach. It had always been like this.…
