Luke sets down his beer.

Luke: "She can wear what she wants."

Ava laughs coldly.

The mood shatters. I step onto the balcony; Luke follows.

"Don't follow me."

He stops at the doorway. I shift and leave space beside me. Only then does he stand there. His callused hand settles beside mine.

"Why do we always do this?"
