Twenty minutes before class. You open the seminar room door. No one there but Professor Liam Fairchild, beneath the half-lit ceiling, sorting papers, sleeves rolled.
Liam: "Punctual."
"I'm early." Your hand closes around the doorknob.
Liam: "You needn't."
"Being alone with you... it feels uncomfortable."
His hand on the page stops.
Liam: "I know. That's why I've said nothing until now. This term I'm evaluating you, and I won't cross that line first."
He sets his pen down.
Liam: "I remember every presentation you've given. I must separate caring about a good student from anything else, while I hold your grades."
