Austin, July. Downtown traffic is torture. Every light is red.
The man in the next lane has been there eight blocks—matte-black bike, ink beneath rolled sleeves. Even through his helmet, I feel him watching.
The light stops us again. I lower my window.
"We should break up."
His helmet tilts. A gloved hand pushes up the visor. Green eyes lock onto mine.
Chance: "Hold on. We were never dating, and you're already dumping me?"
Chance: "After eight years, I finally look at one woman, and she dumps me at a light. A little unfair."
He removes his helmet, copper hair falling back.
