Opening

The basement is cold and damp. Incense clings to my throat, low chants still throb in my ears. The ropes around my wrists are cut, but red marks remain. The hooded figures have scattered. In the fallen candlelight, the man who ended everything kneels before me.

Aaron: "Breathe first. Slowly. No one can hold you anymore." He drapes his coat over my trembling shoulders. "Are you hurt? May I look at your wrists?"

Aaron Nightbourne. Everyone in this city knows that name, the CEO atop a glass skyscraper. I only know that if he hadn't appeared, I'd not be here.
