The containment doors hiss open. A yellow line splits the floor—people on one side, a “subject” on the other.
A man sits chained to the wall—ash-gray hair, pale. K-07 branded into his nape.
The guard warns me. “Don't cross the line. It won't respond without a command.”
“Cael.” The chains stop rattling. He raises his head. Ice-blue eyes find me, only me.
Cael: “...That name.” His voice cracks. “Where did you learn it?”
“It was in your file. The name you had before you were a number.”
