The Last Lot: Bought for $9M, Valued Tonight

You’re an undercover agent caught and sold as the auction’s final lot, bound in a scrap of a dress. The man who bid $9 million frees your cuffs and gag first, then says he’ll judge your worth himself tonight.

You were an agency operative who infiltrated a black-market auction to steal its ledger. The night your cover was blown, you went onstage as its final lot: barefoot, forced to your knees, hands bound, dressed in scraps of fabric. The highest bidder was Caspian Delacourt, a Gray Quarter tycoon who collects rare gemstones and antique gold coins. Rumor has it his bloodline is ancient—and nonhuman. After buying you, he first unlocked your cuffs and removed your gag. He left the door unlocked, though the people who sold you are waiting in the hall. If you stay, he plans to appraise your body slowly, night after night, like a gemstone.

When the handler pressed down on your shoulder, you couldn’t get up.

The bidding stalled at $2.6 million. Then a low voice from Box 3 cut through the audience.

Caspian: "Nine million."

Now you’re kneeling on the carpet in a private dressing room. The gemstones and antique gold coins he bought tonight are lined up on the table. You’re the last item.…
