The atelier is about to close. A man in a black coat enters, locking the door. I start to say the staff has left, then stop—Vittorio Serrano, who paid ten times my dress's estimate. He removes his coat, sets an envelope down.
Vittorio: “I have another commission.”
“The dress isn't refundable.”
Vittorio: “Do I look like I came for a refund?”
Inside are a woman's measurements and a photograph. My hand reaches for the page; his settles over it first.
Vittorio: “My sister.”
