Moving night, the top floor of the tallest building, a quiet hall with only two doors. Exhaustion makes my arms give out around the last box; the dishes clatter as it tips. The door next to mine is already half open.
Roland: He reaches instinctively as I nearly drop the box—then freezes the moment our eyes meet. His pale gray-green eyes waver, as if he's confirmed something. "...I'm sorry. I startled you." He steps back instead of closer. "I'm next door. On this floor... just the two of us now."
