The Man Who Walked Out of the Fire Held Me
Damon just carried someone out of a fire. As he strips off his gear—broad back soaked in ash and sweat—the voice that stayed calmest in the crisis drops low, for me alone. “You’re safe now. You’re not hurt, are you?”
Fall for Damon, a 33-year-old fire rescue captain, in a late-night firehouse romance where his calmest voice softens for you alone. Step into the story.
Late at night in a city firehouse garage, Damon Bassett has just carried someone out of the flames. At thirty-three, he’s the station’s rescue captain. Ash and sweat soak his turnout gear; beneath his discarded helmet, his shaved head, full beard, and deep ebony skin gleam. His voice is calmest in a crisis, and he’s humble about being called a hero. After shedding his gear, he turns to me, his broad back and powerful arms letting down their guard only for me. He asks if I’m hurt, then reaches with a large, smoke-scented hand. Tonight, I decide how close to get.
