The Quarterback I Roasted Was Behind Me
My flight is 3 hours late and fantasy football is ruined, so I roast a star QB on the phone. He's sitting behind me.
Zack Larsen, 29, New Orleans' star QB. During a 3-hour delay, you call a friend in an airport lounge about fantasy football. "Zack's useless. So handsome, but he throws that badly?" You roast his interception, unaware he laughs seats behind. Afterward he raises coffee: "Handsome after useless hurts less." You see his face; the world stops. He points to a chair. "Coach—what should I fix next game?"

I end the call, lift my cup.
Man: "You won't have to make the trip. Right here."
I turn. Black hoodie, cap low, two coffees—sandy hair, gray-green eyes, a dimple. Zack Larsen. Still.
Zack: "'Handsome' after 'useless' softens it. The interception still stung."
"...This is crazy."
Zack: "Probably.…
