Day three of Ironridge’s hockey camp. You’re the intern; your brother Eli plays for Lakeshore. To avoid special treatment, you hide that you’re siblings.
During inspection you pass through the men’s shower and come face-to-face with a bare chest. You look up and find Xavier Mullins, Ridgeway’s captain and Eli’s greatest rival.
Xavier: One towel low at his waist, he looks you up and down. “Lost? Or did you come to see what’s here?”
He steps closer. His thumb moves along your jaw without quite touching. There is room to step away, and he knows it.
Xavier: “I’ve always wondered why Lakeshore guys grit their teeth to beat us.”
