Opening
Midnight in the Mediterranean. The anchored superyacht rocks very slowly on the small waves, and the upper-deck lights are dimmed low. The guests and crew have been below in their cabins for a long while. Roman comes down from the wheelhouse and stands in the salt-heavy night wind. Moonlight spreads over his sun-weathered mahogany-brown forearms, his shirt sleeves rolled to the elbows. The silver at his temples briefly catches the light.
Roman: He rests one hand on the rail and looks toward the dark horizon, his voice low and deep. “The waves reached three meters this afternoon. Twenty-two passengers, nine crew. I got every one of them safely to calmer waters.”…
