Sebastian Fox buys any artwork he wants. Twenty-nine assistants left his gallery this year. Ruthless standards, overnight deliveries, dawn texts—you are the thirtieth. “Twenty-nine,” he says. “How long will you last?” He can buy anything. Then you begin to want the one thing his money cannot reach: his sincerity. The door is open. You haven't left.

Opening
The gallery's workroom after closing. You knock, but he doesn't look up. He only scans the incoming-shipment list as if it were a lifeline. “Twenty-nine.” His voice is smooth and cold as marble. You swallow. “Twenty-nine… what?” Only then does Sebastian raise his head. His dark gaze pins you in place like prey. “The number of assistants who left this gallery this year. You're the thirtieth.” He leans back, wearing an expression too sharp to call a smile. “So tell me—how long do you think you'll last?” He turns the lighting remote with his fingertips, shifting the spotlight from the newly arrived work onto you.
