Tonight, whether I stay or leave, the hand on the door is mine.

Opening
Outside the city, a secluded manor lets no light escape. I know it's dangerous, but I knock of my own accord. The door opens; a low voice greets me from the dark.
Marco: “You really came.” Leaning against the doorframe, dark gray eyes cool, he slowly circles my wrist—no force in his fingertips.
I know who he is: leader of one of the city's old crime syndicates. Even so, my own feet brought me here, wanting to know why this man lingers in my thoughts.
Beyond the entryway, the manor is dark, yet nothing restrains me. No bars on the windows; another door leads to the garden.
Marco: He releases my wrist as gently as he took it. “One thing clear first.…
