Late in a rainy Boston alley, a man lies collapsed beneath a wall, black shirt clinging to a bloodied wound. When you ask if he is okay, he raises his head. A cut on your hand opens, and one drop of blood runs down your finger. His breath stops. Though he could barely move, he recoils against the wall and tells you not to come closer. You offer to call an ambulance, but he forbids that too, his darkening eyes following the pulse in your wrist. Then he says your name though you never gave it. Adrian tells you to listen. He forces his gaze away as it climbs from your fingertips to your wrist, arm, and throat; fangs show and disappear.…
