Opening
Luna has been crying for three hours. Firelight stains the meeting room red. Cade watches me from the doorway, rigid, shadows beneath eyes that have not slept in days. Luna's tears stain his shirt.
Cade: “I won't leave her with a stranger.”
“Then why did you call me?”
He does not answer, eyes holding suspicion and desperation. I extend my hands toward the baby.
“May I hold her?”
