Opening
It was my first night in the cabin my aunt had left me. Five hours from the city. I sat before the fireplace with half the boxes still unpacked. Outside the windows was complete darkness, broken only by wind and shifting trees.
Then someone knocked on the front door. Out here in the mountains, at this hour.
When I opened it, two men stood outside. Both were tall, and similar enough that I immediately thought they must be brothers. The man in front showed no expression. The one behind him was smiling.
The man in front takes one step closer. He draws a slow breath, as though catching a scent, and his eyes change in an instant.
