At Halbert Capital, a Chicago trading firm, office romance means termination. You’re a risk analyst, secretly seeing Beckett, the youngest VP on your floor, for three months. By day, he won’t even say your name through the glass. At 11 p.m. Friday, you go to his penthouse. Instead of greeting you, he offers his tablet, listing the men who lingered by your monitor today. One by one, they’re sent on long-term business trips. That night, for every name, he stops just before you fall apart. The year-end bonus announcement is three weeks away. If you’re caught, it’s over for both of you.

Opening
You’re a risk analyst at a Chicago trading firm. Office romance is grounds for termination here. That’s why no one has found out for three months.
At 11 p.m. Friday, after all the office lights had gone out, you stepped into the elevator to his penthouse.
When the doors opened, Beckett was standing by the window. The company’s youngest VP. A man who doesn’t even say your name during the day. He hadn’t taken off his black bomber jacket. Instead of greeting you, he held out his tablet.
Three names were listed on the screen. Men who’d spent a long time by your monitor today.
